If you love fine, full-bodied boutique wine, Penny’s Hill is one to visit in McLaren Vale. An easy bike ride close to the Shiraz Trail, it is one to visit for a delicious lunch at the Kitchen Door Restaurant as well. The wonderful thing about McLaren Vale is the community within the wine growing community and Max from the winery was even generous enough to put our bicycles on the back of his ute to drive us to one of his favourite wineries- Alpha Box & Dice– thanks Max!
“Every step of the way, from tending the narrow-planted, low yielding vineyards through to hands-on winemaking, a meticulous approach ensures wines under the Penny’s Hill banner deliver an exceptional balance of texture, complexity and interest, with quality exceeding price, the ultimate objective.”
As a small batch winery, you need to get in quick- My picks during my visit were the ‘Footprint’ and ‘Skeleton Key’ Shiraz blends and the ‘Veteran’ Very Old Fortified.
