Jones Winery and Vineyard is a family owned and operated winery, located within historic Rutherglen, Victoria (just 45km west of Wodonga and 276km north-east of Melbourne). The winery, which was established in 1860, has been within the Jones family since 1927 and is one of only a few in Australia to produce wine from vines planted more than 100 years ago.
“Grapes grown and wine made by us”
Jones Winery and Vineyard
The winemaker, Mandy Jones, comes with 14 years experience in Bordeaux and with her brother, Arthur, brings a range of wines using a great range of grapes varieties including malbec, marsanne, fiano, pedro ximenies, durif, shiraz, grenache and Rutherglen brown muscat.
We picked up a bottle of the 2011 Jones Winery & Vineyard Town Block which has “a deep crimson colour, with notes of black pepper, spice with hints of vanilla and perfumed plummy fruit. The spicy and dark fruit flavours on the palate are full with good length and savoury, soft tannins on the end of the palate.”
Aside from a visit to the cellar door, you can grab a bite of simple French food from the adjoining café. You can also check out the exhibits of work by local articles at the gallery and cellar door area.
