The Shiraz Trail is a 7km stretch of shared path that stretches from McLaren Vale to Willunga and is part of 37km Coast to Vines Rail trail- a historic steam train line that graced the region about 40 years ago. This stretch of the trail offers a backbone for a great food and wine experience connecting local wineries with local foodies hotspots and is a way to explore the region by bicycle.

“A community initiative, the Shiraz Trail offers a food and wine trail experience, similar to the Clare Valley’s Riesling Trail.”

When visiting, we rode on a Saturday and left McLaren Vale and headed to Willunga Farmers Markets for some local produce and delicious coffee and chai.
We then headed to Battle of Bosworth, Fox Creek Wines and Penny’s Hill before hitching a lift to Alpha Box & Dice and then riding back to our accommodation. The trails is relatively flat and gorgeous view of vines, Suffolk sheep, llamas and rolling hills. A great, active way to see the region up close.
BIKE HIRE: We stayed at McBrides House during our stay which provided bikes for us to use. You can also hire bikes from Oxygen Cycles (prices start from $15.00) or Onya Bike Hire at the Carriage Café (prices start at $21.00)
