Wine O’clock: Fox Creek Wines, Barossa Valley

Just a short bike ride off the Shiraz Trail in McLaren Vale lies this wonderful winery gem. Originating from a group of doctors and their wives, the families have created some fabulous award-winning Shiraz.

“As we believe wine is principally created in the vineyard, great care is given to the vines. Many of the vineyards are trellised to expose the grapes to sunshine and free movement of air which reduces susceptibility to disease. Our premium wines are sourced entirely from grapes grown in the McLaren Vale region and most of them from our own vineyards. “

Some of the selection

While there were a great range of delicious wines (seventeen varieties), during my visit I purchased:

  • Old Vine Shiraz 2013:  Another fabulous big, bold rich plum and black cherry wine. Fruit, spicy and nutty- just like a Christmas cake.

While I didn’t purchase any during this trip, one of my all-time favourite medium-priced wines is the Short Row Shiraz, one that is easy to find in your local bottle shop.

My pick!
